What is a SSP you ask?

SSP is a Support Service Provider as individuals who help members of the DeafBlind community, in allowing them to borrow your eyes and ears to encourage and promote them in being independent. SSPs do transporting or meeting at places as a guide and an environmental explainer. If you are interested in becoming a SSP and bridging that gap of information and accessible for the DeafBlind, please sign up now!

You will need attend both dates, August 26 and 27th to complete training and testing to become a certified and paid SSP.

There are three SSP levels, which depend on your skill level. This is will evaluated through our testing process with DeafBlind leaders who will determine your level.

Level one – guides, explains environmental information and speaks with a clear voice. This level does not use and doesn’t have to be a signer of sign languages.

Level two – guides, explains environmental information in a clear voice or no voice (if Deaf), uses close-up sign language in beginner to intermediate signing of ASL, PSE and or SEE.

Level three – guides, explains environmental information completely hand in hand using tactile signing of: ASL, PSE and or SEE. Is also a fluent signer with some tactile, and Pro-tactile included.

It is free to register! Sign up now at our website www.shep-ok.org/become-ssp. You can also email cassandra@shep-ok.org if that’s easier for you!
