They will give out prizes and provide Thanksgiving dinner.  This is a good opportunity for Deafblind to come socialize with students in the interpreter training program. This would help the students to become better trained to work with the Deafblind one day.

planning our annual Christmas event for Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and
Child(ren) of Deaf Adults (CODA) children. The event is to be held on
December 2nd, 2017. Last year, 65 children attended the event. This year we
expect upwards of 75 children! Our theme is Candyland. We will have
several activities related to the theme."

Touch Signals is used with people who are deaf-blind, providing visual and environmental information using various methods of touch on the body.  These signals do not interrupt formal spoken or signed communication.  Touch SIgnals are discreet and in real-time, allowing the deaf-blind person greater awareness of what is occurring in their surroundings.

The Arkansas Deaf-Blind Community (ADBC) is very excited to host the fifth Deaf-Blind Retreat in Arkansas on October 19-22, 2017. It will be held at the beautiful Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center in Ferndale about 10 miles west of Little Rock. The theme of the retreat will be “HARVEST TIME”. This retreat is for adults who are deaf-blind. It is also an excellent opportunity for Support Service Providers (SSPs) and volunteer-interpreters who want to enrich their experience to work and have fun with deaf-blind campers. ADBC is working hard to make this retreat as exciting and enjoyable as possible, and we hope you will consider coming and join the fun.

Justice For Magdiel Sanchez

The Carnalismo National Brown Berets along with the American Indian Movement Indian Territory Chapter and the Oklahoma Association of the Deaf and/or hard of hearing will be marching from City Hall to the Oklahoma City Police Department to rally for the senseless murder of Magdiel Sanchez who was walking in his neighborhood. Officers responding to a hit and run confronted Mr. Sanchez and after numerous people shouted to the officers that Mr. Sanchez was hearing impaired, the officers proceeded to tazze and shoot him taking his life because he was not obeying commands. Come show your support with signs and photos.

If you are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, special activities are abound during the 12th Annual Oklahoma State Fair Deaf Awareness Day (or known as DAD) on Thursday, September 21. At designated times throughout the day many Fair shows will be interpreted.

Deaf Awareness Day Schedule (COMING SOON)

Starting at 10 a.m., plan to make your way to the south end of the Modern Living Building where you can enjoy entertainment by Deaf and Hard of Hearing performers and guest speakers. There will be several Deaf organizations and Deaf vendors offering valuable information, resources, networking opportunities, and arts and crafts. You won’t want to miss this fun-filled day at the Oklahoma State Fair.

August Silent Dinner

Silent dinners are THE place to come and practice sign language in a non-threatening environment.  All levels of skill are welcome from very beginning learners to native signers.

Where? The Woodland Hill's Mall Food Court is the standard location of Silent Dinner.   The mall's address is at 7021 S Memorial Dr in Tulsa.  This is the NE corner of 71st and Memorial.  There are various food vendors to choose from; however, food purchase is not a requirement.

When? Come after work as it begins around 6:00pm. Feel free to stary until your hands get tired or until the mall closes at 9:00pm.

This could mean Deaf Ed teachers, Interpreters, Paras, TAs, Speech Paths, Psychs, Admin, Counselors, Parents of Deaf Children, Deaf Members of the community, College Students or other Professionals that work with D/HH children. We have applied for .6 CEUs.
